About

MESON has cooperated in the planning and development of two applications, "AR Room" and "AR Guide," for the new augmented reality (AR) glasses "Nreal Air" launched by NTT DOCOMO on March 4, 2022. The demo applications were available for a limited period of time at the trial corners set up at approximately 100 docomo Shops nationwide, and anyone could try them free of charge with no reservations required.

Background

The "AR Room" provided an AR experience based on the theme of "remote work," which is attracting attention at the Corona Disaster. From meetings to self-brainstorming to generate ideas alone, the demo service provided a simulated experience of next-generation work styles while enjoying more convenient and efficient work through AR.

Another application, "AR Guide," provided an AR experience based on the theme of "regional tourism. The entire tourism industry, not only in urban areas but also in rural areas, has declined over the past 1-2 years, and we designed this experience with the idea of using AR to boost tourism.

Execution

In a DOCOMO Shop, it is required to provide a single-player and indoor experience. Therefore, we carefully designed a series of services from the development and design aspects in order to provide an outdoor AR experience and a simulated multi-user communication experience even in single-player mode.

In the AR Room, we implemented a function that plays back the voices of multiple performers and the movements of each user within the space. The AR Room is designed to allow users to experience remote collaboration even if they are playing alone. On the other hand, AR Guide uses 360-degree images taken in Asakusa to give a three-dimensional and realistic view of Asakusa introduced in the application, and expresses the world view of the service in VR.

Next Step

Through the Nreal Air product demo trial application, we plan to promote the Nreal Air itself in the Japanese market and to gain market recognition in the AR field itself. Based on the practical application of the demo application, we will update the service content so that it can be used in actual work situations and at tourist attractions in the future.
